What's included

What an NDIS support coordinator does

Starting out with the NDIS can feel like a lot to take in. A support coordinator is the person who helps you understand your plan, turn it into real, everyday supports, and feel confident making your own choices along the way.

Working alongside you — and your family or carers, if you'd like — your NDIS support coordinator can help you:

  • Understand what's in your plan and what your funding can be used for
  • Find and connect with providers, and set up service agreements
  • Build the skills and confidence to coordinate more of your own supports over time
  • Get ready for your plan review and think about what's next
  • Work through problems and coordinate next steps when something changes

Support coordination comes in three levels under the NDIS. The level written into your plan reflects how much help you need to coordinate your supports — not a judgement about you. If you're not sure which one you have, we can help you read your plan and understand what it means.

Level 1 support coordination: Support Connection

The most self-directed level. Support Connection is shorter-term help to understand your plan and connect with the right providers, along with community and mainstream services — so you can build the skills to run more of your supports yourself.

Level 2 support coordination: Coordination of Supports

Often the level people have. Your NDIS support coordinator works alongside you to design and put in place a mix of supports, build the skills to manage them, and keep everything on track across your plan period.

Level 3 support coordination: Specialist Support Coordination

A higher, time-limited level for people in more complex situations — for example where there are significant risks, several services that need to align, or a crisis to work through. NDIS specialist support coordination is delivered by a suitably qualified practitioner and focuses on reducing barriers and stabilising your supports. We'll help you understand whether specialist support coordination is the right fit for your situation and connect you with the support you need.

How support coordination is funded

Support coordination is funded under the Capacity Building part of your plan, in its own dedicated Support Coordination budget. That's separate from your Core supports — so using a coordinator doesn't reduce the funding you rely on for everyday supports like personal care or getting out into the community. It needs to be included in your plan for you to use it. As a registered NDIS provider, we can help you understand which level suits your situation and make the most of your support coordination budget. Not sure what's in your plan? We'll talk it through with you — no obligation.

  • Help to understand your NDIS plan and budgets
  • Finding and connecting with quality providers that suit you
  • Setting up service agreements and getting your supports started
  • Building your skills to manage more of your own supports
  • Preparing for your plan review or reassessment
  • A steady point of contact if problems come up

Support coordination FAQs

Is there an NDIS support coordinator near me?

We accept support coordination enquiries across Sydney and Greater Sydney and Perth and Greater Perth. Get in touch with your suburb and plan details and we will confirm current service availability.

What are the three levels of support coordination?

There are three levels. Support Connection (Level 1) is shorter-term help to understand your plan and connect with services. Support Coordination, or Coordination of Supports (Level 2), is more hands-on help to design and manage a mix of supports. Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3) is a higher level for more complex situations. We can help you understand which level is funded in your plan.

How is support coordination funded in my NDIS plan?

Support coordination is funded under the Capacity Building part of your plan, in a dedicated Support Coordination budget. It's separate from your Core supports, so using it doesn't reduce the funding you rely on for everyday supports. It needs to be included in your plan for you to use it.

What's the difference between a support coordinator and a plan manager?

A plan manager looks after the money side of your plan — paying provider invoices and keeping track of your budgets. A support coordinator helps with the people and services side — understanding your plan, choosing providers and building your independence. Many participants have both, and the two work well together.
