How to Change or Switch Your NDIS Provider
You can generally change NDIS providers. Check your service agreement, notice period and current support arrangements, then plan the change before ending an essential service.
Reviewed: 2 August 2026 · Responsible organisation: Reliable Care Solutions Pty Ltd · General information only — check your current service agreement for your specific terms.
Can I change my NDIS provider?
Yes. Your NDIS plan and funding are yours. You can use one provider or several, and you can change at any time. Switching providers does not reduce or affect your budget — you're simply choosing to direct your funding somewhere else.
Common reasons people switch
- Support workers keep changing — no consistency
- Poor communication or slow responses
- Feeling unheard, or support that isn't person-centred
- Workers who don't match your language, culture or preferences
- Reliability issues — late or missed shifts
- You've moved, or your needs have changed
- You want more flexibility
How to switch — step by step
- Check your current service agreement. Look for the notice period (often two to four weeks) and any exit terms.
- Choose your new provider. Our guide on how to choose an NDIS provider walks you through what to look for.
- Set up with the new provider. Sign a service agreement and, if your plan is plan-managed or NDIA-managed, arrange the service bookings.
- Give notice to your current provider — in writing (email is fine). You don't need to explain why.
- Plan the handover. Coordinate dates to reduce the risk of a gap and, with consent, share only the information the new provider needs.
- Confirm arrangements. Agree the service, schedule and start date before the new support begins.
What about SIL or support coordination?
You can choose a different provider for Supported Independent Living, but the change may need extra planning around the household, roster and continuity of essential supports. Ask your support coordinator, NDIS contact or another trusted person for help if needed.
Will switching affect my plan or funding?
No. Your plan, goals and budget stay exactly the same. You're only changing who delivers your support.
